The Garfield-Perry Stamp Club newsletter and web site earned honors during the recent Star Route competition sponsored by the American Philatelic Society. Perryscope, the newsletter, earned a gold award while the website, garfieldperry.org received a large vermeil award from judges.
The panel of judges complimented the newsletter for highlighting members through profiles and collecting interests, philatelic news, club activities, conveying information about stamp events and membership and layout.
The website received high marks for its consistency in design across pages, communication about meetings and membership, readability and philatelic content that included numerous links to members’ exhibits and online presentations.
The competition is named for the practice early in the country’s history of the U.S. Post Office Dept. contracting with horseback riders and then stage coach drivers to deliver mail in some of the most difficult-to-reach locations throughout the country.
The competition allows local clubs to submit their newsletter and website to see how well they stack up with others across the country in the eyes of a panel of judges. Scores are averaged after judging to come up with the final point total.
Perryscope was among 30 newsletters submitted for judging. The Grand Award went to Stamping Around, published by the Mid-Cities Stamp Club in Texas.
The website was among 26 entries submitted. The Grand Award went to the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society.
